Twisted Pink

Strong women don’t seem hard to come by in this day and age and Caroline Johnson is just that; a strong woman. After battling stage 3 breast cancer for a period of time, she saw a need to support those left behind the pink ribbon. Johnson and volunteers started Twisted Pink, whose mission is to end breast cancer deaths by funding metastatic (stage IV) breast cancer research, while exposing the hidden statistics about the disease. Twisted Pink hosts an annual event, the Twisted Pink Masquerade Ball, that anyone can attend which donates 100 percent of the net profit made to stage 4 breast cancer research. It keeps the fight alive and raises awareness not only for breast cancer patients, but for stage 4 breast cancer patients, who are literally holding on for science!

Why stage 4 specifically you ask? Well, stage 4 is when the cancer that started in the breast metastasizes and spreads to other parts of the body, most commonly the brain, bone, liver and/or lungs. Once a patient reaches stage 4 breast cancer, they are usually given a life expectancy of three years or less. Metastatic breast cancer (stage 4) is the leading cause of death in women under 50 years of age. If those numbers aren’t startling enough 20 to 30 percent of patients diagnosed with early stage breast cancer will develop metastatic breast cancer and die. (All statistics from www.twistedpink.org.)

The only way to make sure a cure is found is to keep funding the research that has already begun and is prospering. On January 28th, 2017, the annual Twisted Pink Masquerade Ball will raise funds to do just that and we at Sher’s Bridal want to help. The Justin Alexander gown found below is featured in our store upon entering. Every time this gown is sold in October in blush, a portion of the money is donated to Susan G. Komen by Justin Alexander. Sher’s Bridal will also donate a portion of the money made every time this gown is sold in blush to the Twisted Pink Masquerade Ball starting now until the day of the event!

It’s time to start giving all of the strong women who are battling breast cancer better odds and it starts with you! So go buy a ticket to the Twisted Pink Masquerade Ball and then buy your dress at Sher’s Bridal. That way you’ll know you aided in the fight. That way you’ll know you helped one more woman end her story with “I won.”
